Making Beer

Last night was our first attempt at making beer. It involves 5 gallon buckets and lots of boiling. Made the house smell good, like cereal and plant goodness, if that makes any sense.

For our first batch, we're making a Dortmunder beer and in a few weeks, we should be ready to bottle it up. And then where will we put 50 bottles of beer?

Nice dilemma to have, eh?

Congrats! Have him make you a mead. If he starts now, you may have it in a year.

Just a warning.. You probably won't get 50 bottles out of your 5 gallon batch. I'm averaging about 44 - 48 depending on how vigorous the fermentation goes. Start talking to everyone you know that drinks beer and offer to trade them some of your homebrew for empty bottles. You will quickly find that 50 bottles is not enough. Also you will find out who true friends are when they give you back the empties.
